The project at 2947 Varden Ave is a typical residential layout from the 1950s and 60s, featuring three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The renovation aimed to preserve the original three rooms while minimizing the demolition of existing walls. An additional bedroom, bathroom, and a family room were added to the rear right side of the house.

The kitchen renovation is the highlight of this project. The original kitchen and dining area were narrow and cramped, no longer meeting the needs of modern living. The guiding principle of the remodel was to minimize changes to the existing exterior walls. By extending the garage outward to the building setback line, a long, narrow space was gained beside the original kitchen.

Within this limited space, the architect applied a three-dimensional approach to the design. The newly created strip of space was turned into a cooking zone, with a vaulted ceiling to enhance the vertical dimension. Four skylights were added along the slope of the roof to maximize natural light. The original kitchen area was redesigned into a peninsula with a bar counter, framed by two corner windows. Facing this is a wet bar, a breakfast nook, and a dining area also featuring a vaulted ceiling. This entire zone now offers clearly defined areas, an intuitive flow, full functionality, and a sense of style and romantic charm.

Later, the interior designer carefully selected modern-style cabinetry and designed wall-mounted open shelves tailored to the space. Combined with professional lighting design and fixture selection, the kitchen and dining area became the standout feature of the project.

The transformation from a dark, cramped layout to a bright and comfortable space creates a striking contrast. Without major structural changes, the thoughtful reorganization and redesign of this unique long strip and the original kitchen-dining area brought new life to underused space, showcasing the transformative power of good design.

The exterior of the home was designed in a clean, modern style, with a white and natural wood color palette that evokes warmth and tranquility. Situated on a corner lot, the property originally featured a worn-down house and neglected front yard, which negatively impacted the surrounding neighborhood. The remodeled façade, together with a newly designed modern landscape, has greatly enhanced the property’s curb appeal and made a positive contribution to the visual improvement of the entire street.
