Location

San Francisco

This is an interior renovation project located in San Francisco. The original layout featured a series of enclosed spaces—including the kitchen, bathroom, and hallway—at the center of the main level. These were removed and reconfigured into an open-concept kitchen and dining area. Together with the introduction of a landscaped courtyard, the redesign creates a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor living spaces.

A new home office was also added. Sliding glass doors were used to provide privacy and flexibility while maintaining visual openness and allowing natural light to flow throughout the space.

The lower level, which previously contained unpermitted living space, was another major focus of the renovation. The floor was excavated to increase the ceiling height and create a more comfortable living environment. The redesigned level now includes two bedrooms with direct access to the backyard, as well as a family recreation room, significantly enhancing both the functionality and livability of the home.

The interior design embraces a clean, contemporary aesthetic. Decorative elements, as well as the variety of colors and materials, were intentionally minimized to create a bright, cohesive, and uncluttered environment. Natural light was a key design priority. In addition to the central landscaped courtyard, multiple skylights of varying sizes were strategically incorporated throughout the house to maximize daylight. The backyard landscape was also thoughtfully redesigned, further strengthening the connection between the interior and exterior spaces.
